A Piece of Heaven Along Lake Superior — Ontario, Canada

I continue my drive along Lake Superior and stop at Old Woman Bay Picnic Area. I put on my hiking boots, strap on my backpack, unfold my hiking poles, and cross the road to hike the Nokomis Trail.
The trail climbs upward to an overlook of Lake Superior. There is a fantastic feeling in those woods, like entering an enchanted world long forgotten. It is a dense forest, with ferns and moss decorating the ground. The birds’ songs are loud and welcoming, muffling the sounds of the road and creating a bubble of mystery.
Sunlight streams through the trees, highlighting the ground covered with tree roots. It feels like evidence of the forest's deep connection and community.
I continue my drive, stopping at several viewpoints until it is time to find my spot for the night. A quick search on iOverlander brings me to an incredible spot along Lake Superior with a rocky shore, is just how I like it. (47°03'29.6"N 84°45'40.7"W)
I spot one more person camping farther on the other side of the parking lot. He is far enough away and behind the trees, so I still have my privacy.
I feel like I found a piece of heaven.
I love this spot! I love jumping from rock to rock. The little girl in me comes alive, and I appreciate her presence.
I take my camping chair, set it out on the rock, and enjoy the endless horizon of Lake Superior. The sound of the waves gently breaking on the rocks muffles the sound of the road. It’s funny that many times I totally forget this is a lake and set my eyes on the horizon, looking for whales. :)
It is a cool evening, and I am wearing a winter hat and my jacket. The breeze is so wonderful, and chasing away the mosquitoes.
Life is good!
It has been a while since I had the perfect conditions for a gorgeous sunset. Today is my lucky day. Deep red, orange, and purple mix together to create a pattern so beautiful it takes my breath away. I feel blessed and full of gratitude for another beautiful day on the open road.
After a peaceful night, I am not ready to leave my little piece of heaven. I plan to lay my yoga mat on the rocks and even dare to jump in for a swim.
I am almost done with breakfast when a man shows up out of nowhere. He says good morning and disappears into the woods. I do not appreciate that I come from a place of judgment, but I no longer feel safe. I pack my life back into my van and move on.
