Not Meant to Be Lost: A Story of Serendipity, Winter Park, CO

Oh, I am stretching! I need to after a fantastic day of skiing. I find myself still skiing on the cautious side. However, I am starting to feel that slight wild side of me that always enjoys a challenge. In a way, I really have only two days a week to ski, and so far, one of those days has been taken away by "must-do" things. It is okay—there is no rush on my part.

Honestly, all I wish to accomplish is to ski from the top of Mary Jane Mountain down to the base. The Village Way Trail starts at the top, above the treeline, as a blue/green trail and becomes green the rest of the way. The challenge for me is skiing the blue trails that will take me to the Panoramic Express Lift. I do not worry. I know I will get there.

"Oh, I didn't realize how tiny your room is." That was Adi's reaction when I let Ron and him into my "home for this winter." Yes, it is small but plenty for me. It is certainly more spacious than my car, not to mention warmer!

Do not ask how we all squeezed in and spent one night together at the start of Adi's visit, and again at the end, when Ron picked up Adi so they could spend time together in Boulder. With me constantly moving, finding those pockets of time with my boys is a gift.

Good morning, snowflakes! You are for sure blowing hard with the wind! When you live on a ski resort, there is excitement in the air with every fresh snowfall. It is fantastic when it falls on my “weekends." However, Adi and I decided to take the day easy and hike instead of ski. This way, we could truly spend time together, as Adi is more of a black-diamond skier, and I am almost one. :)

It has been snowing all day today, so tomorrow will be my second opportunity to experience skiing with a fresh layer of snow. My first attempt was not that easy or enjoyable.

I love this story! Sometimes, things are not meant to be lost.

A thin gold necklace with a small pendant was found lying deep in the snow, simply waiting to be seen. A kind young lady brought it to the Lost and Found window.

The next day, we received a phone call (let's call her Kate) asking if a necklace had been found by any chance. She had just realized it was missing. Kate spent all day yesterday snowboarding, so as she retraced her steps, she hoped someone might have found it.

A week later, she returned to retrieve her necklace. I handed her the lost gift her parents had given her for her graduation. This necklace, without a doubt, is part of Kate and belongs around her neck. It was not meant to be lost.

Adi is willing to ski with me, and I wanted to show off my skiing ability. However, and I am still not sure why, (it could be that when I take the higher lifts, the enormous, stunning views emphasize how high I am.) I freak out and lose my confidence. My legs start shaking again. I do it, even with the unfamiliar surface of fresh snow, until I tumble down and pull my left calf muscle. My only triumph is that it happened on a blue trail. :) I am in quite a lot of pain. Since I am not planning to ski next week because it is a holiday and the mountain will be packed, I have two weeks to recover.

Wednesday is karaoke night at Devil's Craft Bar, and I have been wanting to go for a while, so going out with Adi was a great push for me. No, there is no way I plan to jump on stage to sing—I will save everyone from that! :) However, my soul wants to dance! These days, as I no longer care what anyone thinks about my dancing, I truly enjoy the joy that comes from the beats that move my joints. I will be back!

I love giving Adi and Ron glimpses of my life and introducing them to my new friends. Dinner time in the kitchen is becoming a social gathering—this time, it was Kay, Ari, Max, and Ansley.

I love my boys dearly, no doubt about it. However, getting my room back and my own space is priceless. Not to mention, after a week of sharing my room, it feels bigger! :)
