The Magic of Surprises — Chutes Provincial Park, Ontario

By late afternoon, I arrive in the town of Sault Ste. Marie. First, I need to clean my car. I hope the glued-on bugs are not permanent. It is a hot day, and a perfect reason to take a hotel room for the night.
The hotel is just across from the boardwalk. I am five minutes from the Michigan border, however, I am not ready to cross yet. :)
I am not sure if it is so quiet because it is Sunday, but Sault Ste. Marie feels like a town that has had better days.
I set the morning aside for restocking my cooler and doing laundry. While I wait for the washing machine to clean my clothes, I ask ChatGPT for ideas to break up my drive to Manitoulin Island.
Chutes Provincial Park.
I find it on Google Maps to get an idea of the distance and zoom in. That is when I see the name: Seven Sisters Rapids walking trails.
Okay, I am sold.
That is where I am heading.
My drive is between the raindrops. It is a rainy, gloomy day. An hour before I get to the park, the rain stops.
Perfect timing!
I get to the park in the early evening, take a camping spot, and go explore. I am curious to find out what the Seven Sisters Rapids are.
Wow, wow, wow!
Seven Sisters Rapids is one of those trails where water becomes the main storyteller. The path follows the Aux Sables River through forest, rocks, small cascades, and rushing rapids, creating a peaceful but powerful walk through Chutes Provincial Park.
I find a few places to get closer to the rapids. I want to feel the vibrations of this beautiful energy. I am beyond mesmerized by the patterns the water creates as it flows down the river. I cannot resist and take off my sandals to immerse my feet. To my surprise, the water is not as cold as I thought it would be.
It feels so refreshing.
As I explore my surroundings, my attention is focused on the color of the rocks. The colors intertwine to create interesting patterns and dimensions. I take a photo, as it feels like an art form. When I check the photo I just took, I am stunned to see the image in front of me.
Do you see it as well?
This beauty is another gifted surprise from Mother Nature. While my visits to Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie were wrapped in a layer of disappointment, this place feels like an unexpected gift.
I love and appreciate the lesson the open road tries to share with me. It feels like every time the universe knows I am ready for a new lesson, my heart opens to receive it.
The lesson of disappointment.
I can recognize that sometimes my disappointments come from a place I set up myself. Coming with a certain expectation, or a vision already in my mind, sets the mood. The disappointment is all on me. I am the one with the wild imagination.
It is time to adjust my mindset and enjoy the magic of surprises.
I am hungry, and it is time to go back to my site and cook some dinner.
This morning, when I went grocery shopping, I bought a cooked chicken, so half of my dinner is set. In the meantime, I cook sweet potatoes and carrots in boiling water to soften them up while I caramelize the onion. I add the cabbage to the onion to stir-fry and soften everything. Then I cut the chicken into pieces.
It is a full meal to enjoy.
At 8:30, I am not ready to end my day, so I take the twenty-minute walk through the woods to sit next to the rapids. Maybe they have another lesson to teach me.
I absolutely love it here.
What an amazing place!
